Ethnobotany Odeyemi, Oluwasanmi Babatunde [1]. ACARICIDAL ACTIVITY OF Mangifera indica L. LEAF EXTRACT AGAINST Amblyomma variegatum Fabricius. The acaricidal activites of crude methanolic extract of the leaves of Mangifera indica (anacardiaceae) was assessed against engorged female adult Amblyomma variegatum using adult immersion test (AIT). Five concentrations of the crude extract: 333mg/ml (33.3%), 166.5mg/ml (16.65%), 83.3mg/ml (8.33%), 41.6mg/ml (4.16%), 20.8mg/ml (2.08%) and a no-treatment control with three replicates for each were used. Parameters utilized for assessing the effectiveness of the adult immersion test (AIT) was mortality, loss of ovipositioning property and the egg laying index. Results obtained showed that the crude extract of M. indica leaves with an active constituent of 6.66% is toxic to Adult Amblyomma variegatum at all concentrations with least effect recorded at 2.08% concentration with 8.33% mortality. LC50 values was 13.92%. A total of 100% mortality was recorded at concentration of 16.65% and above. The egg laying inhibition recorded lowest value at 2.08% concentration. Mangifera indica from the results is a promising botanical acaricidal agent. Log in to add this item to your schedule
