Gene regulatory networks in fungal development and morphogenesis - towards fungal evo-devo Nagy, László [1], Hess, Jaqueline [2]. Gene regulatory networks in fungal development and morphogenesis - towards fungal evo-devo. The timing of expression and combination of genes expressed in regulatory networks underlie cellular differentiation, which, in turn, forms the basis for the formation of different tissues and ultimately organismal complexity. The post-genomic era has brought a revolution in mycology, by providing abundant genomic data for virtually all major fungal clades. However, to connect genomic data to phenotypes, it is necessary to understand how genes are being put to use to generate the variety of cellular behaviors that ultimately lead to the functional and ecological diversity of fungi. This symposium aims to explore the current state-of-the-art of research on gene regulatory networks in model and non-model fungi. It will provide insights into systematic efforts to map fungal gene regulatory networks in various species (Asco- and Basidiomycota) and outline prospects for understanding the diversity of shape and form in fungal evo-devo, the signals and processes that drive ecological differentiation and for generating the basic knowledge that can be harnessed in synthetic biology and fungal biotechnology.
