Partnerships for Education: Natural History Education DemoCamp.

The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC), Biodiversity Literacy in Undergraduate Education (BLUE) and Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio) partnered with several societies including the American Society of Plant Taxonomy, the Botanical Society of America, and the Society of Herbarium Curators to run a virtual Natural History Education DemoCamp. The DemoCamp was designed to provide Open Educational Resource to teachers, educators, and faculty looking for easy ways to adopt educational materials that engage students with the natural world. For the botanical community, this gave us a chance to share our botanical education resources, the excitement of botany, and the potential for plants to connect students to core content and skills in the biological sciences. With the goal of making this event accessible, the format was informal and included a series of small open sessions where presenters had the opportunity to talk about shared materials and participants were able to ask questions as they looked to implementation. Materials were shared via the Natural History Collections Portal on QUBEShub.org to help increase visibility and access. Alongside reporting about the event and outcomes, we will discuss future plans for an annual collaborative event, and brainstorm ideas for creating an open exchange of resources across societies.
