Symbioses: Plant, Animal, and Microbe Interactions Farid, Arian [1], Alan, Franck [2], James, Garey [1]. Insights into the microbiome of Hemileccinum rubriopunctum tuberculate ectomycorrhizae. Tuberculate ectomycorrhizae are a unique variation of the ectomycorrhizal symbiosis, characterized by the proliferation of fine roots which are encased in a fungal peridium. Several species in the Boletales are known to do this, represented in the fungal genera Suillus, Rhizopogon, and Hemileccinum. While there exists insights into the microbes associated with the former two genera (both associated with the conifers Pinus and Pseudotsuga) no information exists on the microbes associate with Hemileccinum floridanum, which widely associated with Quercus spp. In this talk, I will highlight our insights into the microbial associates of this tuberculate mycorrhizal symbiosis using a 16S metagenomic survey approach.
