Mycology Husbands, Dillon .R. [1], Aime, M. Catherine [2]. Non-Xylaria Xylariaceae from Guyana. Guyana contains some of the largest expanses of untamed wildlands. This rugged terrain is a combination of highland tepuis, sprawling savannah and vast tracks of untouched tropical forest that house a significant reservoir of undocumented flora, fauna, and especially fungal diversity. Over the last two decades, mycoflorostic studies in the Guyanese rainforest have uncovered hundreds of new fungal species and genera, which represents only a tiny fraction of the overall fungal diversity in this system and highlight the increasing importance of continued and strategic documentation of macrofungal diversity in underexplored tropical forests. One of the most widely represented and recovered fungal families is the Xylariaceae. To date, we have recovered ca. 95 species in 14 genera. Prior efforts have focused on documenting diversity within the genus Xylaria including the discovery of new plant pathogenic species. In this study, we focus on the non-Xylaria members of the Xylariaceae which accounts for ca. 20% of our Xylariaceae collections. These play important ecological roles as saprotrophs as well as endophytes and pathogens. Here we document fungi in the genera Camiella, Daldinia, Hypoxylon, Leprieuria, Kretzschmaria, Phylacia, Thamnomyces, and the Xylaria look-alike, Xylobotryum (Xylobotryales, Xylobotryaceae). The majority of these represents new records from Guyana; implications of this work will be discussed. Log in to add this item to your schedule
