Enhancing Quality and Use of Herbarium Collection Data through Community Data Curation Rabeler, Richard [1]. Data access and enhancement: thoughts from a specialist. The amount of digital herbarium specimen data that one can access has grown significantly, from an estimated 5 million specimen records in US herbaria in 2004 to at least 40 million in 2020. In many cases, researchers working with herbarium specimens in the context of a floristic or monographic project now can include many more specimens in their work, likely leading to more comprehensive results. As both a data provider and user of this resource, I find it both exciting and frustrating. I will describe where we are, outline several of the limits of these data I have encountered during work on floristic treatments and taxonomic work arising from molecular projects involving Caryophyllaceae, and offer suggestions of both community resources that are needed and what data providers could focus on to help enhance the quality of the data records.
