Floristics & Taxonomy Ertter, Barbara [1], Shaffer, Paul [2]. Treasures of the Boise Front: Rethinking Popular Floras during a Pandemic. The Boise Front flora project (https://boisefrontnature.com/) is being developed to cover an under-botanized native flora, which includes several rare and undescribed species, that is currently under siege from rampant development and invasive non-natives. Because conservation of these “treasures” will only occur if regional sociopolitical polarization can be transcended, the scientific elements of the flora are combined with community education/outreach elements, in particular interpretive walks. The focus on community education/outreach also determines geographic boundaries, floristic components, and presentation, contrasting with traditional floristic parameters. An on-line format allowed existing and quickly generated components to be made immediately available to a wide range of users during the 2020 pandemic, for what is otherwise a long-term work-in-progress.
