Floristics & Taxonomy Taylor, Nathan [1], Rebman, Jon [2]. A new species of Euphorbia from the Baja Peninsula, Mexico and notes on heteroblasty in the taxonomy of Euphorbia subgenus Chamaesyce section Anisophyllum. A new species from Baja California and Baja California Sur, Mexico is presented. The species belongs to Euphorbia subgenus Chamaesyce section Anisophyllum and differs from other species in the region primarily by its heteroblastic condition producing two primary leaf shapes. The proximal leaf types can be roughly defined and the distal leaf types as roughly post-flowering. Proximal pairs are typically asymmetric while distal pairs are typically symmetric. Distal pairs of opposite leaves are also dimorphic with those subtending dominant branches being longer than those subtending non-dominant branches. While the above conditions are expressed in many species of sect. Anisophyllum and some notes have been made about different leaf sets, there is little discussion of what it means to have two sets of leaves. And, the condition of dimorphic leaf pairs has not been previously noted for the section at all. Log in to add this item to your schedule
